Marriage Counseling

Mark Hastings, M. S., MFT provides in-person appointments in Pasadena, and online to all residents of California

Factors of everyday life can put an abundant strain on a relationship, now more than ever. Severe stressors may include resentment, infidelity, intimacy issues, lack of trust, and miscommunication. When problems go unresolved, or a partner is suffering from mental illness or health complications, one can feel helpless or have feelings of guilt or shame. Communicating effectively on both parts can alleviate emotional anxiety from subjects of every kind.

Couples often seek therapy when the relationship is at a standstill, or if they are unsure whether or not the relationship is worth salvaging. This type of therapy can benefit families with children who have been affected by relationship issues such as divorce, and confront the source of the conflict.

Because of my training, couples therapy is significantly influenced by The Meadows’ Model. Special emphases are on the types of childhood trauma affecting each partner, the partners’ roles in their family of origin, as well as their particular core issues’ struggles. (See Codependency page for more detail.)

And maybe the most significant element of my brand of couples therapy is the use of Listening Boundaries and Talking Boundaries. These tools, when used appropriately, have shown tremendous power in helping heal relationships.
